Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to describe methods for generating user friendly output from system engineering tools. System engineering tools contain detailed descriptions of the system architecture. Frequently, this information is accessed only through standard reports. Methods exist to extract and repackage this information in ways that a wider audience of end users can make use of it. Scripting can be used to generate RTF, HTML, and XML output. This output can then be rendered in other tools and applications. Layered scripting, where scripts generate scripts, can provide for high levels of interactive content. Examples will include the generation of risk matrices as RTF tables, collapsible/expandable tree structures in HTML/JavaScript, and XML output to feed Google Earth.

From October 26 to 29, 2009, the 12th Annual Systems Engineering Conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay in San Diego, CA. The theme for this year’s conference is “Achieving Acquisition Excellence Via Effective Systems Engineering.”
